Uniting Parents to Demand Change

We are a grassroots organization of parents who want a more powerful voice in education policy. Kids don't have lobbyists, and kids don't have a union. Kids have parents, and parents are the only people whose sole interest is the success of kids.

The Impact of Racial Bias on Black Students in L.A. Unified

We are proud to share Speak Up's new report: "The Impact of Racial Bias on Black Students in LAUSD: How School Culture Affects Black Student Achievement and Decisions About Returning to Campus During the Pandemic." This project, generated by our African American Parent Advocacy Team, was more than a year in the making. It elevates parent voices through our survey and focus group data, which tell a compelling story of Black parents' hesitancy to return their children to campuses, not only because of COVID safety issues. Nearly half of Black parents keeping kids home also cited systemic racism, bullying and low academic standards and expectations.
